Double Oak police chief resigns

After three years of overseeing the Double Oak Police Department, Chief Jason Jones has stepped down.

Jones resigned before the Double Oak town council at a special meeting on Jan. 25th.

Jones told The Cross Timbers Gazette that the demands of running a small town police department was putting too much pressure on his family life, so he made the decision to seek employment in Tarrant County, which is closer to his and his wife's families.

"I am simply attempting to balance out my life right now," Jones said.

Jones added that he is leaving the town on good terms and will miss being a part of a community that feels much like a family.

"The amount of support that I have received from the citizens, elected officials and town staff has touched my soul more than you will ever know," said Jones.

"Jason has been known for his integrity and hard work," said town council member Dick Cook. "He is a good cop, has been good for Double Oak and will be missed."

Cook said that the town has yet to really start the process of finding a new police chief. For now, they'll be working with their current personnel.

"I have recommended that town council appoint a committee including one to two from town council and several other volunteers. The committee would screen applicants bringing the top three to five before the council for final selection," said Cook.

Jones estimated that it may take the town council three to four months to hire a new permanent police chief.

"I want to assure all of our citizens that Mayor Pamela King and the town council will vigorously, faithfully, and without bias find a suitable replacement," said Jones.
