Video interview: Whitney of Ruby Revue talks about the Dallas burlesque scene

Whitney of the Ruby Revue talks about burlesque in Dallas

Whitney stopped by Pegasus News World HQ to give us the background on the Dallas Burlesque Festival. (HINT: there isn't any.)

The first ever Dallas Burlesque Festival takes place this coming Saturday night (Feb. 7) at the historic Texas Theater in Oak Cliff.

Whitney Brewer, owner of the Whitney Gallery in Deep Ellum, stopped by our offices to talk about the festival and how she became involved in burlesque performance art.

Before the camera started rolling I learned that Whitney grew up in Dallas, then moved to New York to attend film school. After returning to North Texas she became acquainted with Elisa Davis, one of the members of the Ruby Revue and now Director/Producer of the Dallas Burlesque Festival.

  • Texas Theatre
  • 231 West Jefferson Boulevard, Dallas

Whitney, Elisa and the other Ruby Revue-ers are by no means the only burlesque artists performing locally - from the sound of it, there is a resurgence of interest in the diverse dance discipline, both on the part of women interested in performing and audiences interested in seeing them do it.

Our interview runs about eight minutes.

As for the festival itself: I'll wager that attendees wouldn't even notice if Oswald's ghost turned up in the room.

Enjoy. And see you there on Saturday.
