Burleson Police Department honors many at annual awards banquet

Shaun Kellum receives a Purple Heart.

More than 20 Burleson Police Department officers and civilian employees were honored at the annual police awards banquet on Jan. 22.

Officer Larry Sparks won Officer of the Year; Sgt. Roger Hall was awarded Supervisor of the Year; Officer Jae Berg earned Rookie of the Year; and Telecommunications Operator LaJean Whiteside won Employee of the Year.

Additional honors included the following.

The Ofelia Blair Memorial Character Award was given to Officer Brad Schaefer.

Officer Mike Owen, Officer Tiffany Bauereisen and Officer Shaun Kellum were all awarded Purple Hearts.

The Medal of Valor went to Officer Cameron Pilgrim, Sergeant Roger Hall, Officer Paul Lancaster and Officer Mike Owen.

The Life Saving Awards were handed out to Officer Cameron Pilgrim, Sergeant Roger Hall, Telecommunications Operator Regina Schulter and Telecommunications Operator Shelly Watson.

Meritorious Conduct awards went to Sergeant Melvin McGuire, Officers Larry Sparks, Jay Davis (2), Tim Engel, Mike Owen and Telecommunications Operator Dana Carey.

The Special Appreciation Award went to Sergeant Bob Sherman.

Sergeant Bob Sherman and Sergeant Randy Crum were given awards for fifteen years of service.

Detective Jody Trumble was given an award for ten years of service, and Officers Tim Engel and Mike Owen as well as senior administrative secretary Lisa Cauthern received awards for five years of service.
