Duncanville City Council loves its red light cameras
Despite the city issuing almost 44,000 red light camera citations last year (i.e. more than the entire city's population), the Duncanville City Council turned down a proposal by Councilman Paul Ford to let ticketees appeal their fines to a jury. Currently, anyone who wants to appeal can go before a judge, who then watches the video of the alleged defense to determine if they actually ran the red light.
The city manager says the number of tickets issued is just fine since 80 million cars pass through Duncanville each year. Really? 80 million? Listen, I know I-20 and Highway 67 are right by you, but that doesn't mean that all those people use your city streets.

Catbird, says:
Alex B leaves off the part of the story where the City Council does not have the option to grant a jury trial to scoff laws that run red lights In Duncanville.
STATE LAW GOVERNS DUFUS.
The City Manager was quoting TxDOT traffic statistics - not pulling them out of his rectum like the "author" is doing with this "story"...

Catbird, thanks for your comment. You may not be familiar with some of what we do here at Pegasus -- this post is a "lead and link," in that I'm commenting on a story that was posted on another news site.
I was referencing this part of the linked article: "City officials say Duncanville residents weren't the only people ticketed. The city manager said the city doesn't issue too many citations, noting that more than 80 million cars pass through Duncanville every year."
If the city manager was quoting TxDot traffic statistics, that was not indicated in the article. I did not "leave off" any part of the story -- I merely went by the information that was given to me. Please feel free to post links to where you got your information so others can get the full story.
