Richardson High School team wins 1st Annual Greater Dallas Restaurant Association competition

The student culinary team of Mollie Guerra and Faith Glennie from Richardson High School took top honors at the 1st Annual GDRA FSPrep (Foodservice Preparation) Culinary Challenge hosted Jan. 27 at the Frisco Career and Technology Education Center.
Students were judged on knife skills, cooking chicken, vegetable cookery, starch cookery (rice, potato or pasta), presentation, sanitation and organization.
Second place was captured by Kenia Santibanez and Josip Janjik of Wylie High School. Third place was awarded to Jordan Molder and Nataly Mora of Frisco CTE Center. Other teams competing included Royse City High School, HEB ISD Technical Center, Plano East High School and Keller High School. GDRA supports over 20 schools in the North Texas area that teach culinary arts and FSPrep as part of the high school curriculum.
Competition featured a "mystery basket" of ingredients which competitors had to use to prepare a chicken dish, starch dish and a vegetable dish. They also had to prepare a salad and dressing and dessert.
Judges for the event were Andrew Savoie, Art Institute of Dallas; Stacy O'Neil, Le Cordon Bleu; and Jules Smith, US Foodservice. Product/ services for the event donated by AceMart, Dr. Pepper/ Snapple Group, Hardie's Fruit & Vegetable and US Foodservice.
