Dallas’ Spence TAG Academy places in all 8 Dallas Area UIL Academic Competitions

Members of the sixth grade UIL Academic Competition team from Spence TAG Academy won and placed in every event held at the Dallas Area UIL Academic Competition on January 24. The competition was held at Conrad High School, and included teams from Dallas Area Middle Schools.

Members of the team were: Rebecca Apple, Karina Becerra,Vincent Boyce, Stuart Cook (3rd place Number Sense, 6th place Social Studies), Adrianna Demopulos (3rd place Spelling), Gwen Edgar (6th place Calculator), Gustovo Gomez (5th place Maps Graphs and Charts), Isaiah Mercado (3rd place Maps Graphs and Charts, 5th place Calculator), Rogelio Paniaqua (3rd place Social Studies), Janet Sanchez, Alex Shaw (6th place Dictionary), Quinn Torres (1st place Spelling, 2nd place Listening, 5th place Math, 6th place Number Sense), Tyler Townes, Jesus Vega (4th place Calculator).

As a team, Spence garnered one 1st place, three 2nd places, and four 3rd places overall. The team was lead by Bobbi Rider, 6th grade TAG Geography teacher, and Hau Huynh, 6th grade TAG Math teacher.

Alex W. Spence TAG Academy is a Dallas ISD Talented and Gifted Academy for 6th through 8th grade students. The student body is comprised of talented and gifted middle school children from all over Dallas. The school is located at 4001 Capitol Avenue and is lead by principal Jennifer Kent. Spence TAG Academy students consistently score between the 96th and 100th percentile on all sections of the TAKS test, and participate in many different arts and academic competitions throughout the year.
