Fort Worth-based Cowboys & Indians sees absolutely-shocking increase in circulation

Most print publications are sinking like a stone, but here's one that's not.

— Proudly bucking current industry trends, Cowboys & Indians, The Premier Magazine of The West, is celebrating a circulation increase. According to the magazine's Audit Bureau of Circulations Publisher's Statement for the six months ending December 31, 2008, C&I posted an all-time high average total circulation of 158,407. When compared to the same period in 2007, this is a 7.5 percent increase in average total circulation.

The ABC report comes on the heels of more good news from Capell's Circulation Report, the authoritative newsletter of magazine circulation, which recently designated Cowboys & Indians as one of the Top 20 circulation performers of 2008. According to CCR, the internationally circulated magazine posted a 20 percent gain in subscriptions during the past year, with an average subscription price of $22.56.

Using the formula of 5.2 readers per copy, as determined by the Magazine Publishers of America, Cowboys & Indians now has an average of 823,716 readers for each issue.

"As with the American West," says Cowboys & Indians publisher Gregory L. Brown, "the story of this magazine has been one of growth and expansion." From the very beginning, "we have focused on everything exceptional about the American West: history and legend, hardworking people, dramatic vistas, enduring values. And as the West has evolved to mean more than cowboys and Indians, we have expanded the scope of the magazine, reflecting all the West has come to signify to an ever-growing number of people who regard it as not merely a geographic locale, but also a state of mind and a way of life."

Through increased on-site promotions and expanded on-line presence, Brown says, "Cowboys & Indians will continue to attract new readers who view the West as a lifestyle, a culture, a feeling in the soul. We like to think of our magazine as an ongoing invitation to the best of the American West."

The March issue of Cowboys & Indians, now on sale, showcases winners of the magazine's annual contest for photographers who capture great images of the American West. The upcoming April issue, on sale March 3, will spotlight award-winning actor and competitive horseman William Shatner.
