Video: Dallas Burlesque Festival

7

... including bonus video of the preliminary pinup photo shoot.

Pinup photo shoot at the Dallas Burlesque Festival

As noted, Mike shot some video at the Dallas Burlesque Festival on Saturday (Feb. 7). While we were not able to document the entire show, we did capture enough footage of the various acts to give you a pretty decent (if not quite indecent) sampling of performance styles - from classic to retro to nice-girl-with-a-whip (CRACK IT!) - so that you can get a pretty good feel for the vibe of the event.

It should be noted right away that if you are offended by moderate nudity (to the level of g-strings and pasties) and/or the shaking of boo-tay, then you should avoid playing the video files. (This is, after all, a burlesque show.)

As such, these clips are rated *NSFW*.

As has been pointed out by commenters in the linked article, the level of audio emitted by the speaker system during the pre- and inter-act portions of the evening was probably louder than it needed to be - and there was one unfortunate episode of sound system failure just as one of the performers was getting her act in gear. (Like a real trooper, though, she carried on and the sound was quickly restored.)

And, yes, the crowd was definitely at overflow levels, with lots of people standing in the aisles and at the back of the theater - indicating both a big success in terms of getting the word out, and perhaps that the house was oversold.

Our vantage point during the performance was at the back next to the mixing board, just ten feet diagonally behind the seat where Lee Harvey Oswald spent his last few minutes of freedom watching War Is Hell.

All things considered - and keeping in mind that this was an inaugural effort - the organizers of the event are to be congratulated for pulling off a fun and extremely entertaining show.

Here's looking forward to the next one.

Chuckling that we're running NSFW video of a burlesque show the same day that former DMN-er Michael Precker is written up in the WSJ for making the transition from newspapers to The Lodge:

Hi guys, I was the pin up model with the bunny ears :) Thanks for posing the video and pics so quickly! It's nice to be able to see what's going on from your POV.

Thanks for attending the event pegasus news , the Texas Theater could be a great new venue it just needs a little TLC. Looking back at the show there is so much more i would have liked to have done, but with no budget and a limited amount of gear i was quite a challenge. I hope some one donates some more money to the venue to be able to finish out the stage and get proper lighting so that we can continue to produce and attend more events there. Thank you to every one that attended and participated. I look forward to the next one. sincerly , edward ruiz

I am so afraid that he's not talking about a little electronic thing that keeps his heart beating correctly.
