Duncanville police arrest murder suspect

0

A 45-year-old black male was arrested Friday morning by Duncanville Police along with U.S. Marshals in Dallas for the murder of a 76-year-old Duncanville resident .

Police details were sketchy, but it is confirmed that the victim was a resident in the 200 block of Larry Drive and police have said there was no apparent motive for the murder at this time.

Duncanville Police have not established a relationship with the victim and the suspect on he case, but are working diligently with the federal authorities to try and establish a tie.

The crime marks the third criminal instance on the mostly elderly street, and police are cautioning residents to take extra precautions when at home by themselves.

Over the past six months, there have been two additional home invasions on Larry Drive, but the suspects in those cases were Hispanic males.

On Feb. 5, at 8 p.m., DPD responded to a 911 call from the 200 block of Larry Drive, according to Tonya Lewis, public relations manager for the city. When the officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. Due to the severity of the suspect's injuries, he was taken to Methodist Central Hospital via air ambulance. The victim later died due to the injuries he sustained during the stabbing.

The suspect was arrested at a Dallas residence and will face capital murder charges, Lewis said.

If convicted, he could face up to 99 years or life in prison or the death penalty.

He is currently being held at the Duncanville Police Department on a $1M bond.

Duncanville Lieutenant Mark LiVigni said that though the suspect was arrested, the elderly should still take precautions.

“It is important for all, especially the elderly, to be aware of their surroundings at all times,” advised Lt. LiVigni.

Police are not releasing the name of the victim or the suspect until the suspect is arraigned.
