Grand Prairie City Councilman Ron Jensen files for re-election

Ron Jensen

Election season is underway, with one sitting city councilman already throwing his hat back in the ring.

Councilman Ron Jensen has announced his intent to run for another term as the representative for District 6, which includes much of Grand Prairie south of Interstate 20.

“I enjoy the council immensely and I think that we are doing a super job,” Jensen said.

He said that the council has started many projects in his time in service and he wants to continue that work. Asked what he will focus on if re-elected, Jensen said he wants to ensure the city's finances are handled responsibly.

“My biggest concern this next term would be the budget,” he said. “We do not want to have a tax increase and we have got to work hard for the next two years. That is going to be my major focus.”

Jensen serves on the council's finance and government committee with Councilman Rick Sala, whose at-large seat on the council is also up for election, and Councilman Jim Swafford.

The District 5 council seat occupied by Tony Shotwell is the third seat up for election this year.

On the school board side, Places 5, 6 and 7 are up for election. The seats are occupied by Bebe Bingham, Mike Skinner and Paul Martinez, respectively.

Filing for the council and board remains open through March 9. Contact City Secretary Cathy Dimaggio's office at 972-237-8039 to learn more about filing for Grand Prairie City Council. Call Dave Crittenden at 972-237-5592 to file for election as a school board trustee.
