City of Dallas votes to empower private contractors to collect taxes
On Wednesday, Feb. 11, Dallas City Hall passed a resolution that would allow private developers to levy taxes and create public debt.
Three areas in Dallas are under consideration to become "Municipal Management Districts," which means that - with the approval of the Texas Legislature and a majority of voters residing in the districts - developers may be targeting North Oak Cliff (bounded by Davis Street, Cockrell Hill Road, I-30 and Zang), Trinity River West (Commerce, Sylvan, Pueblo and Beckley) and North Lake (Belt Line, Hackberry and Vista Circle/Lakebreeze Rd.) for major - um - development.
(Because that's what developers do.)
