Denton County car burglars caught, wheel thieves keep rolling

Police recently busted car burglars in two southern Denton County towns, but the wheel thieves continue to strike.

An alert Castlewood resident helped Highland Village police arrest two car burglary suspects on January 28.

Police were called to the 3400 block of Buckingham about two juveniles scaring children on the playground with an air soft gun. When officers questioned the pair, they found stolen property in their possession from a vehicle in the neighborhood.

Both of the juveniles were arrested and charged with burglary of a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, Flower Mound police recently charged an 18-year-old Lewisville man with a string of opportunistic car burglaries.

Between Feb. 1st and 3rd, police took 26 vehicle burglary reports in an area south of FM 1171 and east of FM 2499. The majority of the cases involved unlocked vehicles.

Police got a break in the case when they stopped a suspicious car driving through a neighborhood at 5:00 a.m. and discovered stolen items inside.

Despite the recent arrests, police believe that the suspects taking wheels and rims from SUVs in Flower Mound, Lantana and Denton are still on the loose.

"On the same day that we caught the car burglar, we located a white van that we believe had just stolen rims off of a Chevy Tahoe. The van got away without us being able to get close enough to get a plate," said Lt. Wess Griffin with the Flower Mound Police Department.
