Republic Bar Las Colinas under TABC investigation for (GASP) pouring cheap liquor into more expensive bottles
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is investigating Republic Las Colinas for pouring cheap liquor into more expensive bottles and serving it to their customers. (The horror... who does that?) That is just one of a few problems the restaurant/bar has been dealing with as of late. They temporarily had their liquor license revoked for owing the state tax money and the bar owed some of the employees money from bounced paychecks. Sounds to me like once a paycheck bounces, your employees start telling TABC about your shady practices. This is why you take care of your people first and figure everything else out later.

Oh I love this! Even though it is aesthetically a very cool place where not many aesthetically cool places exist, I have a friend who had taken particular issue with The Republic, and now I think I understand the situation much better.
It seemed to be the odd little practice of a few of the bartenders there to actually refrigerate their wine. And no, not the kind that is supposed to be served chilled. Light or complex red wines that should be served just below room temperature. Since I will opt for vodka or whiskey over the grape stuff more often than not, I took much delight in teasing my friend for her wine snobbery. I can’t wait to tell her that most likely the reason her sort-of-pricey glass of wine was refrigerated improperly was probably because it came from a box!! Although, now I must pay homage to her expertise!
