Cedar Hill High School girls’ soccer coach resigns; accused of improper relationship with student
Daniel Clay, 27, resigned as the head girls’ soccer coach at Cedar Hill High School Friday amid allegations of an “improper relationship” with a student athlete. He had been on paid leave since Feb. 2 pending an investigation, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The district is not releasing the results of its investigation, but Cedar Hill’s ISD Chief Operating Officer Kim Lewis confirmed there were allegations of a relationship between Clay and a 17-year-old student. Lewis said there were no allegations of sexual misconduct, but the pair apparently exchanged notes. The district turned its investigation over to the Dallas County District Attorney’s office.
A spokesperson for the DA’s office said they did not receive enough information from the complainant to pursue it. Former girls soccer coach Heather Parks will take over as coach of the team.

Guess what? The media loves to eat this stuff up and throw it all around like truth. The real truth is that you guys don't know ANY of the details and report it all like someone has been convicted. How do you know this girl didn't make the whole thing up? You don't. So stop reporting news before you get any details. This is FACTLESS NEWS!

I have to agree with mentor on this - to a point in that I don’t think this is a PegNews issue as much as it is a general media issue. I do think it is very unfortunate the way that the media handles pending criminal cases. In a world where so many people who have actually been convicted of a crime have later been proven innocent, we still persist in this bizarre form of public humiliation without all of the facts having been weighed and heard. I feel badly for people who have had their lives turned upside-down over what ends up being nothing more than baseless gossip. Not that it isn’t fascinating to read about, mind you.
Where the responsibility lies is the main issue, I think. Where is the line on reporting what the public needs to know and plain exploitation?
Even if this guy turns out to be completely innocent, you can bet his neighbors will never look at him the same.
