Oak Cliff blog roll call
Recently, there was a post at Pegasus News that highlighted some new blogs coming from Southern Dallas. While I did take issue with that writer’s belief that he was essentially the first blogger on the scene and I couldn’t get his definition of the line between Southern Dallas and Oak Cliff (since, you know, like, Oak Cliff is a part of Southern Dallas even if some North OC residents try to forget that (gasp!)), I did appreciate learning about new local blogs and I figured that I’d do a Oak Cliff blog roll call of my own. Besides, I love checking these blogs because their diversity reminds me of why I live in Oak Cliff and starting making audio podcasts in and around the neighborhood in May 2005.
Granny Geek - Since November 2005, Granny has given the “scoop” about new local businesses, closures, and sprinkled some national politics along the way. We love you, Granny!
Bike Friendly Oak Cliff - Being in November 2008, Bike Friendly Oak Cliff has become a lamppost for a group of over 100 local cyclists to their concern for better bicycle facilities in Oak Cliff. And now, they even have t-shirts.
Oak Cliff Advocate - Advocate Magazine had a series of local neighborhood editions around Dallas and in June 2008 mentioned that Bishop Arts Media, who published Cliff Dweller magazine, would become a part of the Advocate family of magazines. Since then, the Advocate blog brings news of North Oak Cliff and Downtown. I would like to see more articles about Oak Cliff events south of Illinois though.
Oak Cliff Foundation / Texas Theater - Wanna keep up with renovations and events at Texas Theater? Bookmark the blog of the Oak Cliff Foundation to see pictures and stories. The site looks really good, even though they’re using Drupal(!).
Oak Cliff Transit Authority - While their blog isn’t as updated as I’d like, since November 2007 (what is it with the November start dates, anyway?) it’s been a good way to keep informed on the progress of the return of trolley cars in North Oak Cliff directly from the source.
Winnetka Heights Neighborhood Association - Keeping Winnetka Heights neighbors informed and empowered in the business of the Neighborhood Association blog.
La Reunion TX - For the longest time, I heard this name around town and had no idea what people were talking about. Now, you and I can stay abreast with the progress of this creation of an arts residency on a 35-acre site in Oak Cliff.
Oak Cliff Roasters Weblog - Bringing a fresh coffee roast to the Cliff, Shannon and Jenni Neffendorf talk about their new aroma in the air, as well as issues around coffee pricing and sustainability.
Now this my favorite part of this post. It’s the part where you leave your Oak Cliff blog in the comments so that I can read more about you.

Well it took 30 years to create this, O Thank Heaven for 7/Eleven..and yet....Oak Cliff is a place all on it's own..weird, real,.. but cool,.. leaving Dallas to head to the Southwest of Texas....while in the 1900s, the only blog they had was the Trinity, comming out its banks and flooding West Dallas and innner City Dallas...than again, La Reunion was always apart of West Dallas, while Hords Ridge, now that is the original home for Oak Cliff back in 1846...A/T,Urban Travler..ohhhh,Southland Corp,.. was Oak Cliff and 7/11.

Dude, I had been writing for years on blogs before Dallas Progress was official. DallasArena and Dallas.org have featured my writing. But it's not a contest to me and never has been.
It's a big tent my friend. No gatekeepers, all views and insights are always welcome.
To me, "Southern Dallas" is the whole thing...I never really liked the term southern sector.
The Cliff is part of Southern Dallas, just like South Dallas, the Grove, Piedmont, Buckner Terrace, Parkdale, Urbandale, Oak Cliff, South Oak Cliff, Glen Oaks, and everywhere else.
Wow A.T. - calling 7/11 "Southland" is old school. Props for that.

Michael, my bone of contention was this line from the original article:
"What can't be disputed is that we started this thing in our part of the city."
As you say, because this is a "big tent" indeed, I was simply disputing that statement. Life goes on.
