Two Savor Dallas contests are live on Pegasus News

11

— Once again, Pegasus News is a sponsor of Savor Dallas, taking place from March 6-7. For those living under a culinary rock:

The Savor Dallas concept was envisioned over five years ago by co-founders Vicki Briley-White and Jim White as a means of showcasing Dallas's great chefs, restaurants, cultural and artistic treasures, and to create the signature wine, food, and spirits event the Dallas-Fort Worth Area deserves.

We've got two Savor Dallas contests for your culinary enjoyment right now. One gives you the chance to win a trip to Aruba; the other, a share in more than $2,000 worth of tickets to Savor Dallas events.

Tickets can be purchased online.

You can browse many of the participating restaurants here on Pegasus News.

In what way is Savor Dallas different than Taste of Dallas? Wasn't the concept originally the same for Taste?

Teresa Gubbins says:

jtmbls, one supposes that any tasting event is the same at heart. both Taste of Dallas and Savor Dallas do offer tastings from area restaurants. but i think Taste of Dallas has always been tied to promoting the West End, and also includes music and other entertainment.

Savor Dallas has more of a serious-foodie focus, and at least half of the events involve wine. they present educational panels during the daytime that are taught by "industry professionals" (many of whom fly in for the event). they also present awards to local food dignitaries such as Caroline Rose Hunt.

I've never been so I'm wondering what else should you expect to pay for once there? The home page is rather limited with info.

Mike Orren says:

razorphreak, the fee is all-inclusive. There are special areas, like the VVIP section at the Grand Tasting that have a separate admission, but you can have your fill and then some at every event I've ever been to and there are no opportunities to pay more for more stuff. The only event I'm not sure about that on is the Victory Park event, so maybe Jim can clarify.

Also, jtmbls, the advantage of Taste of Dallas is music performances. Otherwise you're looking at sweaty masses of people outdoors paying a la carte for food and hooch. Savor Dallas is more elegant and is one price for all you can eat and drink. Savor FTW.

(Disclosure: we were a sponsor of both events this year, but have a bigger role at Savor than we had at Taste.)

I don't think anybody goes to Taste of Dallas expecting any food to be particularly good or interesting. I haven't been to Savor yet, but I'm hopeful.

Scott Doyle says:

The wine event on Friday of last year's Savor was certainly interesting.

Of course, I'm sure my idea of a good bouquet is probably quite different from frou-frou wine drinkers'. It should also be noted that I only remember pieces of that evening's latter end...something about a jerk cabbie who kept intentionally making a wrong turn to run up the meter.

Scott... Is your idea of a good bouquet: 1) daisies 2) roses 3) a fine Chianti?

;-)
