Dallas radio station KMVK-FM “Movin’ 107.5” is now Spanish adult contemporary “Mega 107.5”

48

Pop/R&B station KMVK/107.5 FM "Movin' 107.5" switched formats on Tuesday to the Spanish adult-contemporary "Mega 107.5 FM," says Philpot, who describes the shift as an abrupt cutoff from Madonna's Vogue to Juanes' Gotas de Agua Dolce. (Points to Philpot for being able to tell the difference, ha ha ha.) The new station will target 25- to 54-year-old Spanish-speaking adults, and will start by playing 10,000 songs in a row. Maybe because they don't have any ads yet. This is the station that used to be the Oasis; it's been Movin' since October 2006.

This would be what, the 500th "Spanish adult contemporary" station in DFW? Radio in Dallas is starting to resemble MTV.

Well, there are a lot of contemporary Spanish adults in DFW, I guess.

And radio won't resemble MTV until all actual music is replaced by reality shows.

From an NBCDFW article:

"In fact, CBS Radio claimed the new MEGA 107.5 will be the "first and only Spanish language Hot Adult Contemporary station." Though we're admittedly not Spanish language radio listeners, we have no idea why this format would be that different from CASA 106.7."

Well, duh -- it's "Hot" instead of just regular ol' Adult Contemporary.

As a member of another board that talks radio in this town, its funny to see the response about this. Im in agreement with alot of people: There's too many dang mexican stations in this market and not enough mexicans to listen...

Great move! The local Spanish culture spends lots of "hard-earned" money in Dallas. They deserve to take-over the Moving 107.5 FM radio spot, now revenues will increase for that station. they changed the format due to lack of profitability, period

This stinks! I'm going to have to make the move to satellite radio or just listen to my iTunes. Until the change, 107.5 was the only thing that kept me upbeat on the way to work each morning, and now...no way, Jose.

I too enjoyed 107.5. Nothing like it anywhere else on the dial. I was pretty disappointed when I hit he preset today.

Seriously, MUVN 107.5 was about the only station I tuned into with any sort of regularity. It was awesome to hear some Bell Biv Devoe followed by PM Dawn followed by some other new jack swing nuggets. Ah well, back to my iPod.

Michael, the Oasis WAS THE best. I used it in my offices as backround noise, "on-hold" telephone music and much more. I just don't understand why Dallas does not have one smooth/jazz/aura type music station.

We have enough Spanish stations in DFW. But no Dance Music stations. I was disappointed by the sudden change! Please bring Movin' 107.5 Back- it was the BEST!!!!

That was a huge bummer for me. I loved that radio station! It was awesome...great oldies from Sir Mix a Lot, Michael Jackson mixed with the newer stuff. Now, there's no station that will perk me up like that one did. I wonder if it's gone all across the nation? They also had the same station in Seattle. Bumming in my car!

I still miss KDL and its techno music offerings. Sure, I can only name 6 songs that they played over and over, but at least it provided me with my trance fix.
And yea, I can start paying for my XM/Sirius subscription when my free 3 months ends next week, but it's not worth the money for the one station I listen to.
(shameless plug in 3..2..1..) If you're looking for something completely different you can always tune in to 89.7 Power FM! And we don't play any commercials. www.kvrk.com

This is such an extremley bad decision here, on the part of CBS Radio. Why they chose to put another Spanish radio station on the airwaves here in Dallas is beyond me! This is by far one of the worst decisions in a radio format switch that I have seen in recent memory.

Movin' 107.5 was the only radio station in this major radio market known as Dallas/Ft.Worth (the #5 U.S. radio market by the way, acoording to RadioandRecords.com) that played such an outstanding mix and wide variety of popular up-tempo/upbeat Top 40, classic disco, dance music and freestyle and so much "old school" that listeners coast to coast have come to relish. This "Rhythmic AC" format, as the industry calls it, has been extremely successful in other major radio markets, and Dallas was one of the first to jump on this format nearly 2 1/2 years ago, when "Movin' 107.5" made its debut.

The "powers-that-be" at radio, have made some hideously stupid choices in the past here in DFW, but this one really takes the cake! And don't think for one minute that most of the loyal "Movin'" listeners are gonna go back to KISS-FM, because basically in a nut shell, KISS-FM here in Dallas, like most Clear Channel owned Top 40 radio stations, SUCKS!! They basically cater to housewives and pre-teens, and their music mix is horrible, with no re-currents, gold library or any type of Rhythmic-oriented dance material.

I am so glad that we live in an age where there are so many other music choices out there, like satellite radio and internet streaming. I for one, intend to keep my Sirius/XM satellite radio subscription as it offers so many choices, similar to the Rhythmic format that "Movin'" had to offer. And the internet is full of so many similar choices as well, like KTU.com in New York, among other stations in other U.S. cities that you can stream over the internet.

At this point, I am totally done with local terrestial radio in the Dallas/Ft. Worth radio market, and probably for good. CBS will more than likely regret this decision, as well as any others that they have planned at other major market stations in the coming weeks. Trust me folks, I've worked in radio for several years now and I know exactly what I am talking about.

Good luck CBS, as you are going to need it!!!!!

I will have to agree with Michael (gasp!) that the Oasis mix was a least something different on the dial, and it got better (for me) with Ramsey Lewis' Legends of Jazz show (as I appreciate more traditional jazz) especially since I can barely pick the Denton jazz station.

Another reason why I hope SoundExchange will "do right" by other webcasters so we don't lose their variety.

My humor on the kind of Hispanic rock and Jesus format, while if you enter into this culture, they do have some very fanatic stations down by the boarder....Say.. DC,it is an intresting event going on, they are making rock music from a cult spiritual basis if these are End Times, I have noticed... but, I dont relgiously listen to, Then again I am a Jazz man and Blues, while Tejano music and it luster of german influence,is a dying song...A/T, Name that tune Oscar Mendez..

Here we go again just another good radio station in the Dallas market taken away. Why is it that everytime a good station comes along they take it away and replace it with a spanish speaking one. I mean come on don't we have enough of them already. Lord knows we have enough illegals from Mexico and not to mention that Pizza place that takes Peso's Enought is enough now stop taking away English channels that are successful only to replace them with stations for a bunch of illegals.

Robert, we've thusfar made it with the "I know it when I see it" test. It's essentially a human judgment call, and while we try to be evenhanded with it, we sometimes miss the boat (although I don't think this is the case here).

In general though, there's a fine line between opinion and hate speech. We try to err to the side of free speech, but some things are clearly over the line.

To your question: We always allow people to criticize or question any group. But hate speech towards any group is unacceptable. A lot of times, a few letters make a big difference.

It only makes sense that a radio station here in Dallas would change to a Spanish speaking format.
Mexico has been a failed state for a long time. And during that time a great many folks from that failed state have moved into our neighborhoods- "...borrowing a cup of sugar?".

Waaaaa!!!!!! I wondered if the windy conditions had affected my favorite radio station. Apparently they were replaced by a Spanish-language radio station!

I miss Chris and Mel on my early-morning commutes to work. I miss hearing songs from my teen years that no station ever plays anymore. I've lived here one year, and I've discovered that DFW radio stations have a frustrating lack of variety. One can listen to: rock, two country stations, a classical station, 102.9, some random hip hop stations and Spanish radio. I'm not 16 anymore, so KISS FM doesn't interest me.

Does DFW have any college stations or anything alt or funky, less mainstream? I saw one poster mentioned trance/house, which I love. Do any DFW stations play any of that ANYWHERE?

I guess one has to pay for true musical diversity these days. I'm glad I have my CD player in my car. Thumbs down to CBS...I'll keep my other opinions of them to myself.

I am latin but grew up here and wasn't taught my native language. I normally listen to Trip-hop, soft rock, rock, etc. Recently I've tried to learn the language & "immerse" myself in it through music & films but have found that the only stations I've heard play old music that reminds me of a carnival for some reason. I can't stand the accordian. I went online & found that Spanish folk do make WONDERFUL modern music. I enjoyed it even though I could only pick out a few words. But the underlying theme of my post is that it's not the end of the world. There are awesome songs out there in Spanish. It is the 4th most spoken language in the world - Mexicans aren't the only ones who speak the language. Of the top four, (Engl, Chinese, ?, Spanish)it's the closest to English.
