The Fort Worth Independent School District is installing a new, state-of-the-art basketball scoreboard in the Wilkerson-Greines Activities Center. The new high-technology board will replace one that has been in service for many decades and highlights yet another step toward the goal of a new Digital District.

“When I was playing at TCU, our current scoreboard was in use at Daniel Meyer Coliseum,” said FWISD Athletic Director Herb Stephens, Jr. “TCU has always been good about passing useable equipment to us, but we really needed to update this item.

The new scoreboard is actually six separate scoreboards. The main apparatus in the center of the arena is comprised of four scoreboards. There are two additional boards on each end of the basketball court, for a total of six. The boards on each end will measure eighteen feet in length. And it has a digital message sign that actually works, unlike the older scoreboard!

The new equipment will display an electronic message board as well as actual team names (instead of Home & Visitor); jersey numbers of players actually in a game; points scored by each player; and fouls for each player.

Installation is taking take place on Wednesday and Thursday, February 18 and 19, 2009. The new board could see action as soon as Friday evening. In any event, the equipment will be used during the Girls Region 1 5-A Championship.
