Gay List Daily’s must-do events: Feb. 19-22, 2009
Two of our favorite events take place this week and both involve drunken debauchery and gold, naked men. So whether you like to drink Hurricanes until you puke or prefer to cheer on your favorite actor on the red carpet, we’ve got the Dallas connection to both Mardi Gras and the Oscars!
Bernhard With A Vengeance: Carnivale 4 benefiting the Resource Center of Dallas and AIDS Arms
Saturday, February 21, 11:00 p.m.
Catch the gals of the Rose Room this Saturday night in a fabulous supershow, followed by the always controversial, angry, angry Sandra Bernhard. We love her to death, but we’re also scared to death of her. Cover price gets you into the Rose Room for both shows, as well as plenty of dancing downstairs in S4. Drink specials and much more make this one hot place to celebrate the Saturday before Mardi Gras. Other Carnivale events will take place at Sue Ellen’s, JR’s and TMC in case you want to Cruise the Crossroads a while.

The Big D-sy: Popeye’s MystiQal 2009
Saturday, February 21, 6:30 p.m.
Mardi Gras without boobies and wieners is like Christmas without boobies and wieners. Where’s the fun in that? Well, we’re willing to see how a G-rated, no-nudity Fat-Tuesday-on-Saturday party plays out, but we’re gonna keep a little porn on our iPhones just in case we need a fix during the parade. There will be beads, but how you get them is entirely up to how many strikes you have against you.
Parade starts at the corner of Ervay Street and Main Street, Dallas; www.quickdfw.com/mystiqal
Bourbon & Bingo: Gaybingo Dallas
Saturday, February 21, 5:00 p.m.
This month’s Gaybingo theme is (get ready for the surprising revelation!)… “Bourbon Street Gaybingo!” We’re not going to make it to Fat Tuesday at this rate, but Gaybingo is what our stock broker calls a “sound investment” for our portfolios. Wear your favorite mask and get ready to win some money. And maybe, just maybe, there will be titties and tallywackers.
$25 includes all 10 regular games and special games; You must be 21+ to attend to Gaybingo; The Rose Room at S4; www.rcdallas.org
Two-Steppin’ And Tinseltown: Oscar Watching Party
Sunday, February 22, 7:00 p.m.
If you want to watch a cowboy cry, just wait until The Conscience of Nhem En wins for Best Documentary Short. Oh boy, the blubbering may never stop. But in between the tears of joy, you can enjoy food, drink specials and prizes as you watch the live broadcast of the 81st Academy Awards with all your closest friends at the Roundup. Sure beats sitting at home watching it with your cat.
