Sycamore in Lucas may be largest, oldest tree in Texas

All along Houston thought it had the largest tree in Texas. Turns out, in addition to sucking in general, Houston was also wrong.

When asked, the tree claimed to be bigger because it, "doesn't have to live in that polluted trash pile called Houston" before yelling "North Si-ide" and flashing what appeared to be a very large "NT" with its ginormous branches.

Members of the Trinity Trail Preservation Association may have stumbled upon the largest tree in Texas. Planning to extend walking and horseback riding trails in Lucas (located in Collin County), the group found a number of large sycamore trees, including one that stand 101 feet tall with a trunk circumference of 25.5 feet.

The forestry service has given the tree 439 points based on measurements, which is three points more than a tree in Houston previously believed to be the largest in the state.

The 200- to 400-year-old Lucas sycamore's growth is attributed in part to nourishment it receives from a nearby fresh water creek that flows into Lavon Lake.
