Lake Dallas to hold Mardi Gras Celebration on Fat Tuesday, February 24

1

— Lake Dallas is hosting its own version of the biggest party of the year: The Mardi Gras Celebration is from 5 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 24 at Lake Dallas City Hall. Lake Dallas City Hall parking lot will feature a one-of-a-kind New Orleans-style party with Cajun food, live music from the N'Awlins Gumbo Kings, and free activities for the kids.

Spectators can line Main Street, Shady Shores, or any of the other streets to watch the parade and to collect beads, candy, and other throws as Aaron's presents the Mardi Gras parade, which will travel through the historic downtown area. Aaron's parade will begin at 5:45 p.m. at City Park. $1,000 grand prize will be awarded to the overall winning entry and trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each division will also be awarded!

The 2009 Grand Marshall will be Holly Deitrick. Lake Dallas will also feature new Mayor Tony Marino in Aaron's parade; he will do the official welcome announcement at 7:30 p.m.

"Holly has done and continues to do a lot for this community," said special events coordinator, Shannon Fields, "from her work the past three years for the City of Lake Dallas, to involvement with the Chamber and Education Foundation there are a million reasons for Lake Dallas to honor Holly Deitrick!"

Free activities for the kids include a huge inflatable obstacle course sponsored by Lone Star Inflatables, a rock climbing wall, balloon art and more. Kids ages 4 through 4th grade can enter a mask in the masquerade contest. Trophies will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners and a $200 cash prize will be awarded to the classroom or organization that enters the most masks.

The Mardi Gras Celebration encourages attendees to get involved by entering in the costume contest. All ages are eligible to compete and the overall winner will be awarded $200. Crawdaddy's, a new Cajun vendor will host a crawfish eating contest where the winner will receive a special prize. A special enter and win giveaway will also take place at the celebration. Whataburger will be giving away free Whataburger for one year in addition to having a special prize wheel for attendees to play.
