Plano ISD budget shortfall may lead to teacher layoffs, increased class sizes

3

The average student/teacher ratio in Plano Independent School District classrooms is currently about 14/1, just better than the Texas state average. But the stinky budget situation (which must somehow be related to the stinky economy in general) finds the district facing a $17 million shortfall.

So the Plano ISD school board is considering a measure to increase class sizes. This would (they think) minimize teacher layoffs, while leading to a district-wide monetary savings of about $6 million per annum.

Scot Walker, says:

It's not the economy at all. It's the property tax reform passed in 2006 that has lowered the state contribution to PISD.

But if Plano didn't have to give $87 million to "Robin Hood", they'd be doing swell.

I noticed Garland doesn't have a deficit. How ironic.

Simple solution. State income tax.

Done.

Scot Walker, says:

Sure, that works well in California. Hmmm, errr. No.

How about this radical idea - taxation with representation. Plano ISD is listed on my property tax bill. I give THEM my money. They use my money.

Done.
