The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Board of Trustees formally approved Dave Henigan of Corsicana ISD as the Grapevine High School head football coach/boys athletic coordinator. The recommendation was approved during Monday’s regularly scheduled monthly meeting.
Henigan, 38, joins GCISD from Corsicana High School, where he has served as the head football coach and assistant athletic director for the past five years. He has compiled an overall record of 35-21 with three playoff appearances, and was named District 13-4A Coach of the Year in 2004.
“We are so pleased to welcome Coach Henigan and his family to GHS and our community,” said Dr. Jerry Hollingsworth, GHS Principal. “His focus on building the lives and character of his student athletes, a clearly articulated vision for Mustang football, and his outstanding communication skills make him an excellent fit for Grapevine High School. I am extremely excited for our young people and their families to get to know Coach Henigan in the coming days and weeks.”
Henigan takes over for long-time coach Gary Mullins, who is leaving GCISD after the current school year due to a family move to the Houston area. Henigan is expected to join GHS in March at a base salary of $60,703.
Before becoming head coach in Corsicana, Henigan served as the offensive coordinator for Denton Ryan High School from 2002-2004. During that time, Denton Ryan was a state finalist in 2003 and state champion in 2002. Henigan also has coached at Allen High School and Highland Park High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy in 1994 from the University of Pacific (California), where he was as a Division I scholarship quarterback. He also holds a Master of Liberal Arts in 1997 from Southern Methodist University and is certified to teach Social Studies.
“I’m excited to be part of the Grapevine team,” Henigan said. “It’s a place that has great tradition and obviously has great kids. I hope to have a positive impact on these kids’ lives and hopefully, along the way, we’ll have the opportunity to be successful on the field. This is a new beginning for me, a new beginning for Grapevine, and I’m looking forward to doing great things together.”
Henigan and his wife, Laurie, have three children.
