Obama to cut federal funding for Texas’ abstinence-only sex education program
With the third highest teen pregnancy rate in the country, maybe little-to-no sex education is better than their current program.
A representative of the Legislative Budget Board announced Monday morning that Texas may not receive its previously allotted $9.8 million in federal money for abstinence-only sex education. They are suggesting Texas schools get the money from the state. With the third highest teen pregnancy rate in the country, maybe little-to-no sex education is better than their current program. These cuts in funding would not likely affect Dallas ISD because they are not in a partnership with the program that is losing funding.

If this is so effective, they should be able to come up with private funding for the program. I would imagine every church in town would want to contribute. Problem solved.

I've got a whacky idea... how 'bout Father-son and Mother-daughter talks.
I know that puts a LOT on already busy working parents, but it is a growing trend of personal responsibility
Oh wait what's this about another 100 billion dollar bailout?
I must have meant, "Leave that Big Decision to Big Brother, too."

Very happy about this. Obama is indeed looking at line items for useless spending such as this.
An abstinence only sex education plan was ridiculous then and it's ridiculous now. It was purely Conservative party pork. This was about as effective as a rice cake only diet plan.

FINALLY! Texas needs to wake up and realize that it's not working. Teenagers are going to have sex, whether they like it or not so at least get them prepared to do the right thing.
Of course, parents should be teaching their kids about sex ed as well.

Obamas doing the right thing and cutting right-wing idiocracy out of the budget. Abstinence only is a joke that has caused too many problems and too many young folks to get the wrong information about being safe and not stupid.
