The Dallas City Council approved a contract Wednesday to start demolishing Reunion Arena in April. The winning bid came from A&R Demolition, an outfit based out Del Valle, which is just south of Austin. What, couldn't find a good local place?
In other news, Assistant City Manager Ramon Miguez describes the space that will result from Reunion's departure as "a grassy knoll," which, as one of the commenters on the DMN blog points out, is not exactly a great way to describe an open area in downtown Dallas.

Just this morning I heard a story about the use of Reunion as a Casino (Yes I know they have been saying it since Laura Miller was in office) How can we be talking about one thing and planning another? I personally think its a real shame to destroy the building no matter what. And to leave it as a grassy knoll?? Another place for the homeless to hang out?

I don't think that story about the casino implied they would actually turn Reunion into a casino, just the site. And I'm sure that it's not going a "grassy knoll" for that long (gosh, it's so tempting to throw in a zinger there, but I'm going to refrain).

Boringly, Reunion is being brought down from the inside and no implosion will be visible to the public. Crews have until November to be done.
