DFW International Community Alliance to hold second annual African Unity Festival

DFW International Community Alliance is proud to present the second annual African Unity Festival partnered by the City of Dallas Office of Economic Development, UNT, SMU, and the Dallas Public Library. The African Unity Festival will be a five weekend series of events that takes place in various venues between April 18 and May 17.
* The African Cultural Festival on Saturday, April 18 at 8 pm and Sunday, April 19 at 4pm at UNT College of Music Concert Hall will be the 12th annual music Festival featuring UNT ensembles and guest performances from various African nations. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door.
* On Saturday, April 25, the African Film Festival at SMU’s Meadows School of Arts is from 1pm to 5 pm and will be showing four films for families and adults that represent multiple African nations and social issues faced in the region. Admission is FREE .
* On Saturday, May 2, Africa Day at J. Erik Jonsson Central Library is from 12 noon to 5 pm and will include interactive workshops for children, African arts and crafts, global games and cultural booths. Admission is FREE.
* Two events are planned for Saturday May 9. From 12 noon to 2:30 pm the African Liason Office for the City of Dallas will present a Business Roundtable to introduce opportunities for collaborative projects between local businessmen and African governments and entrepreneurs. Starting at 7pm to 10:30pm will be the Taste of Africa at the African-American Museum. The evening will include dishes from various African countries, a Parade of Nations, African Student Leadership and African Business Leadership awards. Details are pending.
* The African Unity Cup and African Family Picnic is a six week long soccer tournament with the 3rd Place and Championship Games scheduled for Saturday, May 17 starting at 4 pm at HEB stadium (Pennington Field) in Bedford. A family picnic with Parade of Nations, African games for adults and children, and African food vendors are part of the celebration. It is FREE to all.
Regina Onyeibe, the African Liaison for the City of Dallas Economical Development office says “The City of Dallas is excited and enthused about partnering ith DFW International for the 2nd Annual African Unity Festival. It is our hope that an event such as this will be a beautiful beginning to a truly unified African community in our city."
