Sucky economy may lead to more MBA students for UTD

Hey, if you get fired, you might as well take some time to sharpen your skills: no one will be hiring for a while anyway.

Two strategies for dealing with unemployment: self-improvement, and beer. (And who's to say they're mutually exclusive?)
Two strategies for dealing with unemployment: self-improvement, and beer. (And who's to say they're mutually exclusive?)

The School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas is hearing from a lot of outplacement counselors whose clients are asking them how to improve their chances of landing a good job in today's really stinky, kick-you-in-the-hangy-down-parts economy.

One solution being put forth is the expenditure of $23,000 and a time commitment of 16 months in order to obtain a Master of Business Administration degree through UTD's full-time MBA program.

Says Lisa Shatz, director of the program: “The counselors feel good about recommending this because it is, over the long term, beneficial to the newly unemployed. The person who just lost his or her job feels good about it because the price is right, prospects for quick rehire are low right now anyway, and this positions that person perfectly for landing another position when the job picture improves.”

In other words, make hay while the sun shines (on no one).

Full-time MBA classes start up at UTD each August; there'll be an on-campus information session about the program from 7 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24 at the School of Management. The deadline for applications is May 1.

Jason Rice, says:

MBAs?

Aren't those the rocket scientists that got us here? Or were those exclusively Harvard?
