Theater Spotlight of the Week: Lindy Benton-Muller

0

Interview with Lindy Benton-Muller, Director of Theatre at Tarrant County College South Campus

Although college theater normally is short-lived and only runs for a select number of performances, sometimes it can be really different and provoking. For this weekend only, Tarrant County College's South Campus Drama program will be presenting Medea & Louise: A Look at Friends, ‘Frenamies’ and Messages in the Media in honor of Women's History Month. I got a chance to speak to director Lindy Benton-Muller, who also happens to be the Director of Theatre for the college.

We begin by discussing her career and what brought her to DFW to teach. She talks about her attraction to college theatre and what she hopes to instill. I also ask if this drama program focuses on something specific when it comes to its productions.

I ask about the concept of Medea & Louise and how it pertains to Women's History Month. Since it is a student-produced evening of theater, she talks about the collaboration between her and the kids, how they were able to cut it down to a 55 minute show, and what the audience can expect when seeing the performance. She also clarifies that this is not a typical play.

I end by asking what she wants the audience to walk away talking/thinking about.

Medea & Louise runs from February 26-28 at 7:30 p.m.
