Dallas police officers face suspension for breaking rules of pursuit
The short-term suspensions stem from an incident in 2008 that led to an officer injury.
On September 8, 2008, several Dallas police units initiated a 25-minute chase of a suspect who allegedly tried to run over officers responding to a domestic dispute call. During the chase, a number of violations of department pursuit policy were - according to Asst. Chief Floy Simpson - violated. These include turning off the dashboard camera, getting involved in the chase without authorization and dropping other assigned duties to engage in the pursuit.
On Thursday, Feb. 26, the Dallas Police Department announced that 13 officers involved in the incident would be receiving one day suspensions; six received two-day suspensions; and one officer received a three-day suspension.
The suspensions came as the result of a disciplinary hearing, and are subject to appeal.
