Pescabar in West Village in Dallas closed
DALLAS Alberto Lombardi announced the closing of his West Village Italian seafood restaurant, Pescabar, effective today January 1, 2009.
Lombardi's other restaurants -- Taverna Pizzeria & Risotteria in Knox Henderson and Fort Worth; Penne Pomodoro in Snider Plaza and Preston Forest; Sangria Tapas y Bar; La Cubanita; Café Toulouse; and Cibus Ristorante & Caffe at NorthPark -- are still open, and a new Penne Pomodoro location will open in the Lakewood Shopping Center in February.
Irritating since about a million people emailed me to say this place was closing and since I called on Monday and the fellow who answered the phone denied they were closing. Still puzzled as to why restaurants are uptight about being truthful on stuff like this.

Early word of a restaurant's imminent demise can cause practical problems, such as staff jumping ship (and no chance of new hires), suppliers/creditors tightening up, customers going elsewhere out of concern about unmotivated kitchen/staff, etc. Clearly, they intended to get as much $ as they could through the holidays, then shutter the operation. There will probably be others who had the same strategy (e.g, a commenter on the Belo Eats Blog says Mainstream Fish House is also shutting down).
(Typo in the headline, btw.)

There will be more closings to come, I'm sorry to say.
Stay tuned this week...
Btw, I don't think Lombardi has issues with finding backing, but there does come a point when you can't keep proping up something that's not working.
I attended the friends and family opening of Pescabar and then returned twice more not long after and just not impressed with the menu. Love the other Lombardi restaurants though.

Its time to realize a loaf of bread in the Cafe is going to cost more, then in the store after you take it home to eat.
Then again, what change does it pulls out old outdated events and allows new ways to eat and shop in this world to exist...there is a big turn over in space and eating in the city, but it is about change...now,..what kind of trend is change, and whos next to make it work for everyone...eating out was fun, but it became to exspensive...A/T, Urban Food Observer.

Also, you need to consider that if you tell the staff that you will be closing that all kinds of equipment, small wares, food and liquor disapper. Some out of fear that they will not get paid and some just out of greed.
