City of Arlington’s new animal shelter sounds like a nice place to pick out a pet

"Awww, he's so CUTE! Pull it over, Harry!"

"Awww, he's so CUTE! Pull it over, Harry!"

The City of Arlington's new animal shelter - set to open this month (Jan.) at 1000 S.E. Green Oaks Blvd. - cost about $5.6 million to build and finish out; it'll have more dog kennels and more cat cages than the old facility (in west Arlington); and there'll be rooms for meeting and greeting prospective furry pets, along with a special room designed for get-togethers with "exotic" critters such as reptiles and birds (I know, we're stretching it by calling birds "exotic" here).

One of the coolest features will be a digital sign in front of the facility that displays photos of pets available for adoption so passing motorists can fall in love with them and find themselves screeching to a halt and pulling into the parking lot. Call it impulse adopting.

Leveraging the availability of cats and the need for immediate attachment in a convenient shopping environment, Arlington introduces the newest concept in ideal urban companionship on a limited schedule.
