Deadly Fort Worth house fire probably started by cigarette, say officials
A house in the 3200 block of Deen Rd. in Fort Worth caught fire and burned early on Jan. 1, and before firefighters could extinguish the blaze - which they determined to have probably been caused by a discarded cigarette - 21-year-old Jaime Gongora-Vela had died from smoke inhalation.
Another man who was in the house at the time of the fire remains in critical condition in Parkland Hospital.
