Jenny the Dallas elephant focus of continued discontent
.. among humans.
Jenny the elephant, who currently and for the past 22 years has resided at the Dallas Zoo, received a batch of birthday cards on Thursday (Jan. 1) from members of the Concerned Citizens For Jenny (CCFJ), who are - um - concerned, I guess you could say, that Jenny's living arrangements don't really look all that comfortable to them. (They've been saying this for some time now.)
They (the members of CCFJ) think Jenny should be retired to The Elephant Sanctuary, whose tagline (man, I just LOVE this!) is "They loaded up their trunks and they moved to Tennessee." KA-ZING!
Dallas Zoo employees, however, continue to say that the best thing for Jenny is to keep her at the only home she knows, amongst the people who love her: the zoo staff. They continue to move forward with construction of the African Savannah Habitat exhibit (which would give Jenny 10 acres to wander around in), due to open in Spring 2010.
(Naturally, Jenny herself isn't weighing in on the matter - though if she did, it would certainly carry some weight - several tons of it, actually.)

the new African exhibit is ten acres TOTAL with only 3.75 acres for Jenny plus up to 4 other elephants, including a male, quite inadequate according to science

This is pathetic. I think it's time to join the CCFJ.
Somebody please stop me if I try to sign up for PETA in a few months.
