West and Clear’s must-do events: 2009 back to reality edition

Here are some ideas to help you ease out of the holidays and gently into 2009.

It’s the tail end of the two-week holiday break and you are broke and busting at the seams from too much holiday cheer. Here are some ideas to help you ease out of the holidays and gently into 2009.

Friday

* Dinner on the patio @ Ocean Rock: You need to eat somewhere cheap, and you need to eat somewhere healthy. Balancing the two is difficult, so I tilted toward cheap. A bowl of gumbo and a beer on the patio won’t dent your wallet, even if it doesn’t qualify as health food. You can diet next week. Call (817) 922-8080 for more information.

* The Code of the Woosters at Stage West: When was the last time you saw live theater? Well, it’s time to go this weekend. This is the final weekend for The Code of the Woosters, another of Mark Richard’s adaptations that picks up where Right Ho, Jeeves! left off. Tickets are $20-24. Call (817) 784-9378 or visit the Stage West website.

The Derailers
The Derailers

Saturday

* The Derailers @ the Fairmount: Yes, Buck Owens is dead, but the Bakersfield Sound lives on with the Derailers from the heart of Texas. Tickets are $12.

Sunday

* Pancakes @ Spiral Diner: One of the best under-the-radar breakfasts in Fort Worth is Spiral Diner’s all-you-can-eat pancake buffet on Sundays. Consider it a going-away present for your tastebuds. Call (817) 332-8834 for more information.

* Casablanca: First Sunday Film Club at the Fort Worth Central Public Library presents the 1943 Humphrey Bogart classic for the low, low price of free at 2 p.m. For more information, call (817) 871-7323.
