If you caught a string of conversation involving something called the Obama Bar, you might be forgiven for assuming that it referred to a political-savvy night spot aimed at cashing in on the president-elect's cachet.
Well - you'd have the cachet part right, not to mention the cashing in, but there the assumption would bite the dust. Or maybe the dirt.
Got dirt? NO PROBLEM! Because what the Obama Bar actually is (depending upon what your definition of "is" is) is a bar of soap, being marketed (in eight aromas!) by Craig Tiritilli and Salah Boukadoum, proprietors of Soap Hope in Deep Ellum (and creators of the Obama Bar).
Those who've plunked down ten bucks a bar for a cake of Obama-themed soap - a portion of which goes into a fund providing assistance to families of injured U.S. military personnel - admit that they're doing so primarily for the novelty value - but then they find out that the soap itself is really quite good.
(Come to think of it, though, I can't remember the last time I came across a "bad" bar of soap...)
