Cookouts surged in Dallas-Fort Worth area on Saturday
Cookouts experienced an unprecedented surge on Saturday in Dallas-Fort Worth as residents who just got done with New Year's leftovers found themselves hauling out dust-covered bags of briquettes to capitalize on the unseasonably nice weather, and the smell of barbecue sauce permeated many a suburban street.
"Mike B.", a Dallas-area videographer, grilled chicken which he described as "marinated in some sorta olive oil sauce."
"We are grilling out for a family member who wasn't able to be with the family on Christmas," he said. His meal also included brisket with steamed vegetables and potatoes.
Meda Kessler, editor of 360 West, a new monthly magazine focusing on North Texas, made grilled vegetables brushed with rosemary-laced olive oil.
"Also some chicken-apple sausages," she added. "This is grilling weather."
"Tasha M.", who works in online sales, had salmon on cedar planks on the grill, which she said was topped off with a "yummy" wasabi paste, and accompanied by baby red potatoes sprinkled with rosemary and "lots-o-wine!!"
"We are doin' the BBQ thang!" she said. "It’s too hot in the house and it’s frickin' beautiful outside!"
