Gay List Daily’s Brunch of the Month: The Oasis in Dallas
We loathe New Year’s Resolutions. They’re just little packages of failure and despair wrapped in the disguise of hope and change. Sorta like Rick Warren showing up at the Obama inauguration.
Yet here we are again, making our rubber-stamp resolutions to exercise more, cut back on the alcohol and eat healthier. Yeah, makes for a fun brunch with the gang.
So, for the first Brunch of the Month this year, we’re recommending a favorite neighborhood haunt that’ll at least help those of us who are trying to cut back on the booze and for whom Bottomless Mimosas on the menu are like scraggly nose hairs on a straight guy: impossible to avoid.
At The Oasis, there is no sauce of the alcoholic type. Just the gravy kind. And good gravy, golly gee, it’s goooood.
The fare here is simple, straightforward and no-nonsense. Eggs however you like ’em, omelettes galore, and plenty of Mexican breakfast staples. But we heart the biscuits and gravy served alongside our huevos and Snausages. The gravy has a hint of chicken stock for just the right salty foil to the buttery, gigantic bread discs. They’re so big, lifting them surely counts as exercise.
Bicep curls for beginners at the very least.
And if you want to tackle that third most-popular resolution, we’re sure the oatmeal is simply delicious.
