Dallas makes Yahoo! frontpage as a least-favorite city for living, working
It's actually a six-week-old report from BusinessWeek, but it's getting renewed juice today (Jan. 7) because it's featured on the Yahoo!/ATT portal page this morning.
What it says is that the city of Dallas makes the (approx. 2,500) survey respondents' list of places they'd be least inclined to move to, ranking #9 out of 10 (with the #1 pick being the place which the largest number of respondents said they'd not want to move to).
When you drill down into the reasons given by survey respondents for their rankings, you find the city's reputation for "traffic, crime and sprawl." Listed as the Dallas area's leading negative attribute was "the people - their backgrounds, talents, and perspectives," with the environment and image also factoring in to the dissing of Big D as a living/working destination.
All I have to say is: thank God everyone doesn't feel that way.
* Interestingly, New York, New York took the #1 spot on both the least attractive and most attractive lists. Go figure.

How ridiculous. These respondents must be bi-polar...on one hand we see this report, but in numerous other reports we hear how the Dallas-Fort Worth area is one of the fastest-growing areas in the nation. I wonder how many respondents have ever actually visited this area?

Since the lion's share of people currently living in Dallas, no small percent of which relocated here from somewhere else (as did their friends and co-workers and real estate agents) have no real idea where they live beyond their own routines, it's hard to believe that those considering moving here would have any idea what the 'there' is that they're asked to consider.

Most people I talk to love it here. Then again, my circle tends to include more people who moved away from large cities in the northeast to find a better environment to raise their children. These also tend not to live within the boundaries of the DISD or FWISD.
I can see why a young single or childless couple might prefer a more urban setting, though.
