Rail system for entire Dallas-Fort Worth area could be on its way

Some North Texas lawmakers are trying to push a plan for a 251-mile train system that would allow virtually everyone in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to take the train to work. The proposed system would use existing rail lines to, as NBCDFW puts it, "connect cities from Cleburne to Frisco."

Allen and McKinney, guess this means you're out of luck.

That's what's always made me stay away from the rail when going out - I basically have to be done by 11 - 11:30 to get home on time. I wonder if they'll ever experiment with >1 or 2 am times whenever the Deep Ellum train gets up and running, at least on weekend nights or something.

Simply everyone knows Sunday is when you're supposed to burn your God given fossil fuels to drive your SUV to church then across town to lunch so you can show off your fancy clothes to a whole new crowd of people and afterwards take a meandering, long leisurely drive for a few hours at 15 MPH under the speed limit. God didn't kill all those dinosaurs for us to not use the oil, d'uh.

And who would need to take a train after leaving a bar late? Really, now, it's not like anyone has been drinking while they were there.

I'm all for public transportation (sitting on a bus as I write), but this sounds extremely shortsighted to me. Having trains that connect cities does not in itself alleviate the need for a car. Our entire sprawling transportation infrastructure is built on low population density, meaning if you want to get somewhere you're almost certainly going to have to drive.

I am a track superintendent for the contractor building the D.A.R.T. Rail and also the contractor who maintains the track for the T.R.E. ,boy, wiat till you see how much railroad is coming our way.....

i am a bnsf Trainmasetr and a union pacific yardmaster we haul the tre train for them when they came in to Dallas and it would be nice to see them run to lancaster Texas and to Teague Texas and To Houston on the Bnsf main line from Dallas Texas to the Dfw sub and come in on the bnsf sub at Fort worth from Houston andstoping at Sanantion and Ausitn and waco and Temple and all the other station on it way back to Fort Worth and Back to Dallas Texas
