Dallas Cowboys hire Joe DeCamillis as special teams coach
IRVING The Dallas Cowboys announced that they have found Bruce Read's replacement in longtime NFL special teams coach Joe DeCamillis, who spent the last two seasons coaching in Jacksonville.
DeCamillis, entering his 21st season as an NFL coach and 17th leading a special teams unit, comes to a unit that was one of the league's worst. Other than some early-season returns from rookie phenom Felix Jones, the unit performed terribly in terms of returns, kicks and the field position battle.
A week six loss to Arizona exposed the Cowboys' special teams as perhaps the worst in the NFL, and late-season mental mistakes against the Ravens and Eagles didn't help matters either.
DeCamillis will benefit tremendously from the return of Jones, as well as injured punter Brian McBriar and punt coverage gunner Pat Watkins, both of whom play a huge role in the Cowboys' special teams success.
