High school culinary students to compete in Greater Dallas Restaurant Association Competition on January 27
High school Food Service Preparation (FSPrep) programs around the Dallas-Fort Worth area will send teams of students to compete in the 1st Annual Greater Dallas Restaurant Association FSPrep Student Competition. The competition will be held Tuesday, January 27 at the Frisco ISD CTE Center, at 9889 Wade Boulevard.
Competition will feature a "mystery basket" for which competitors will have to cut up a chicken, prepare a starch and vegetable dish, and prepare a salad and dressing. Students will also be provided with a dessert item to present. Judging will be done by local chefs and culinary professionals. Awards will be given to first, second, and third place teams.
Two students from each FSPrep program will represent their school in the competition. Eligible schools include: Technical Ed. Center - HEB ISD, Advanced Tech Complex High School - Denton ISD, Allen High School, Ben Barber Career Tech Academy - Mansfield ISD, Centennial High School, DeSoto High School, Duncanville High School, Emmett Conrad High School - Forney ISD, Frisco CTE Center, Frisco High School, Keller High School, Lancaster High School, Liberty High School, Moises Molina High School, Newman Smith High School, Plano East Senior High School, Richardson High School, Royse City High School, Skyline High School, South Grand Prairie High School, Townview High School for Health Professions at Yvonne A Ewell - Dallas ISD, Wakeland High School, and Wylie High School.
Students will demonstrate their culinary expertise in skills such as knife skills, cooking chicken, vegetable cookery, starch cookery, presentation, and sanitation and organization.
Eight teams will be competing at a time, with a staggered start time. The first team will start at 10 a.m. and the last team will start at 12:45 p.m. Each team will have a two hour cook/preparation time and 15 minutes to present.
