Azle HVAC tech flees Wise County courthouse just as jury recommends probation
James Carroll Franklin was just one legal proceeding away from walking out of the Wise County courtroom on his own recognizance - but he didn't know that, and ended up hitting the highway in an effort to see his daughter before what he thought was going to be an extended stint in the slammer.
The 47-year-old Azle A/C technician had been led to believe (by listening to the prosecutors in his drug delivery case) that he might face life in prison; instead, the jury came back with a recommendation that he be sentenced to probation.
Unfortunately, by that time he had left the building (without permission) and was next seen during a high speed chase which ended with him ramming a police car in Tarrant County.
