Alleged killer of Dallas policeman claiming self-defense
Charles Patrick Payne, the man who stands accused of killing Dallas police Senior Cpl. Norman Smith, is claiming self-defense in the shooting, saying that Smith did not identify himself as a police officer and he only reacted as if some unknown assailant was trying to break into his house. Dallas police don't dispute that Smith gave a fake name to try and gain entry into the apartment, but say that officers clearly yelled "Police!" when Payne opened the door.

Oh man! They yelled Police after he opened the door? He had already shot the officer through the door. That's not going to help win a conviction.
