New and newish Fort Worth music venues will open grandly on January 22
Two music venues will open (or reopen) their doors down in the Fort Worth Stockyards on January 22.
The first is the Longhorn Saloon. The second largest venue in the Stockyards, the historic building has been closed (off and on) for some time. Brian Forella, owner of Lola's and the now defunct Wreck Room, will resurrect the concert hall. While the Longhorn will keep its Old West vibe, Forella and Spune Productions plan to book a variety of musical genres and acts in addition to country bands. The updated venue will have two projector screens and 18 flat-screen TVs, a kitchen, and three bars. The press release teases the possibility of an outdoor festival to be held in the venue's parking lot this summer.
A few doors down West Exchange Avenue, Forella is opening a sister bar to the successful Lola's Saloon on Sixth street, which will be called Lola's Stockyards. The venue is a basement room with a reportedly "dark, intimate atmosphere." This apparently makes it the only truly "underground" venue in the Stockyards. Like the original Lola's, this venue will contain tables and chairs that can be removed for standing-only concerts. Even less-so-country than the Longhorn will be, Lola's Stockyards will host a variety of bands, similar to its namesake.
The grand opening for both venues will be on January 22, with the Josh Weathers Band playing Lola's Stockyards and the Longhorn Saloon will open its doors so onlookers can look on at the renovations. On January 23, the Longhorn will musically open with Gary P. Nunn and Jack County, while The Quebe Sisters Band and Ginny Mac will play down the street.
Lola's Stockyards will also begin weekly residencies on January 25. Lola's "Sixth" celebrates its one-year anniversary the same weekend the two new venues open to the public.
