Accreditation group finds Parkland Hospital deficient on 11 standards
Parkland Memorial Hospital's emergency department received an unannounced visit in October, 2008 from The Joint Commission, a nonprofit organization that sets standards for hospitals across the nation. Only recently, however, did the organization release information pertaining to the visit. The hospital all along has refused to release any information.
The Joint Commission found that Parkland was deficient in 11 categories, including "patient's right to pain management," poorly defined time frames for initial patient assessment, leadership, and staff qualifications. Details were not provided as to actual incidences during the spot check that prompted such classifications.
Late last year, 82% of voters approved replacing the 54-year-old Parkland with a larger, more updated hospital.

CitizenKane, says:
The problem isn't that the buildings are old, but that the system is over-whelmed with people (particularly illegals) who make use of the for-free medical services that are delivered at taxpayer expense.
In addition, neighboring and very wealthy Collin County, has no similar county-wide hospital district, meaning that poorer residents (and illegals) find their way into the Parkland system.
The taxpayers are being screwed daily.

Chris Kidd, says:
Ive been saying this for a long time: Other counties(esp Collin) need to quit pushing their indigent cases on Dallas/Tarrant Cos already taxed public medical systems and either start their own, or partner with their neighboring Cos. to start their own public health network.
