Old Red Museum presents: Your Dallas: Carrollton Connections
The Old Red Museum of Dallas County History & Culture will open Your Dallas: Carrollton Connections, a special temporary exhibit tracing the history and development of Carrollton, on January 23, 2009. Your Dallas: Carrollton Connections may be seen through May 10 in Old Red's first floor special exhibit gallery. The exhibit is produced by the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum and presented by the City of Carrollton and the Old Red Museum of Dallas County History & Culture.
This exhibit is the second in a series of exhibits highlighting the cities and towns of Dallas County. Old Red will present two exhibits that focus on the history of different Dallas County communities every year. The first in the series, Your Dallas: Welcome to irving, was on view in the Spring of this year.
Your Dallas: Carrollton Connections includes: historic nineteenth century Peters Colony documents, displays of Carrollton's most recognizable and famous places including Josey Rancho and the Blanton Grain Company, and hundreds of photographs from Carrollton's long and rich history including images of the downtown square in 1900, the catastrophic 1908 flood, and panoramic photographs of early Carrollton.
Toyia Pointer, curator of the Carrollton Connections exhibit and curator of the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum said, "We are so pleased to be able to present Carrollton's history in this format at Old Red. We've tried to highlight some of Carrollton's connections to Dallas County, as one of its earliest cities. We hope that those familiar and unfamiliar with Carrollton will enjoy the exhibit and get a sense of how Carrollton has developed into the city it is today."
On Saturday, January 24, the Old Red Museum will host a Carrollton Connections Family Day, with special general admission pricing at $4 per person on January 24 only and includes performances, talks, demonstrations, and crafts for the whole family.
The Old Red Museum of Dallas County History & Culture is located in the West End of downtown Dallas at 100 South Houston Street in the beautifully restored Old Red Courthouse built in 1892. Dedicated to inspire and educate visitors about the rich and varied cultural, economic, political and social history of the Dallas County area, the 2nd floor of Old Red is filled with interactive exhibits, an educational learning center, and four mini theatres. The special exhibit gallery is located on the first floor. Admission to Your Dallas: Carrollton Connections is included in general admission. General admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $5 for children ages three to sixteen. Admission to Your Dallas: Carrollton Connections without general admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children.
