Clear Channel Communications, with five radio stations in Dallas, is about to do big layoff
Everyone is saying that Clear Channel Communications is about to lay off up to 1,500 people. Supposedly it's more advertising people than on-air people, but the plan might include replacing local shows with syndicated content.
Clear Channel has five stations in Dallas: KZPS-FM (92.5), KEGL-FM (97.1), KDGE-FM (102.1), KDMX-FM (102.9) and KHKS-FM (106.1).

Well, as long as it's just advertising people! They don't have homes, children, a need to eat....all those pesky things that require money!!!

I also heard that advertising people don't have internal organs and that they fuel up in the morning by eating puppies whole.

I'm torn between my intense dislike of Clear Channel, and my moderate concern for people that I may never, ever meet.

No they just grind up writers and mix them in their oatmeal...all the better to pursue advertisers!
And Pavel, go with the moderate concern

This is not the first big round of lay offs for the company. And dallas being the #5 market, i doubt we'll see as much if any syndication as other cities.

I'm going with "real concern" - it looks better on a bumper sticker and there may be some good folks gonna be spewin' resumes this month. I hate seeing that.

I used to do The Edge and some other shows, but IF Clear Channel lays off our local DJ's then they will lose in the end. EVERYONE likes to hear local shows with local topics, instead of canned/syndicated stuff. I hope they are smarter than that!

Early local casualties:
"After several years at CC hot AC KDMX (Mix 102.9)/Dallas, MD/midday goddess Lisa Thomas and morning ringmaster Tony Zazza have both exited. Thomas, who was a nominee for R&R MD of the Year, can be reached at marylisathomas1986 at yahoo dot com. "

IN RE: "So clear channel goes from being sucky to super sucky?"
It's what Clear Channel and most all homogenized entertainment corporations do. It's not their propensity, it's their line of work.

Come on, I bet we can name dozens of big entertainment corporations that aren't naturally sucky. Well, half a dozen. Maybe a couple? One, at least? Half-credit?
