Dallas Symphony Orchestra conductor Jaap van Zweden’s new BFF is Fort Worth pianist Van Cliburn

Two local classical-music mucky-mucks have forged a friendship: Jaap van Zweden, conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and Van Cliburn, famed Fort Worth pianist.

Van Cliburn drove from Fort Worth to Dallas TWICE to visit, so they must be pals: First at a Highland Park house party, then on Thursday to see the DSO perform Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony (which Alan Peppard calls "electrifying"). Alan has all the delicious deets, including the fact that the "intimate dinner" in Highland Park was at the home of DSO board member Sheila Grant with guests Liener Temerlin and wife; Dallas Symphony president Doug Adams and wife; and philanthropist Nancy Dedman.
