Sign up date set for Coppell Community Garden
On Saturday, Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., you'll have an opportunity to sign up for a garden plot at the Coppell Community Garden, where produce will be grown for the Metrocrest Social Services Food Pantry. The signup location is the Fire Training Room at Fire Station #3, next to Town Center in Coppell. (Enter the building through the south door, please.)
Volunteer gardeners (who typically will spend two to three hours per week on their adopted 70 - 100 sq. ft. raised bed growing wholesome fruits and vegetables) will not only benefit from the stress-relieving aspects of nurturing their plots, but they'll also learn about growing organic vegetables in a friendly and supportive group setting.
The gardening plots will be located at the Helping Hands Garden (at 255 Parkway Blvd.) and Ground Delivery Garden (at 450 S. Denton Tap Rd.). More information can be found here, where you may also register if you are unable to attend the in-person sign-up session.
The non-profit Coppell Community Garden organization contributes over 13,000 pounds of fresh produce annually to Metrocrest Social Services; it's been providing this service since 1998. The garden plots also provide demonstration sites for the City of Coppell's Master Composters latest formulations.
