Cuban and Wagner’s Magnolia Pictures buys rights to Humpday at Sundance
Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner's Magnolia Pictures has swung a deal at Sundance for the rights to the independent comedy Humpday. IFC and Roadside were also engaged in spirited bidding for the distribution rights.
Under terms of the deal, Humpday will be released via video-on-demand prior to going into its theatrical run - a rather unusual cart-before-the-horse arrangement, but - hey, who knows? - maybe counter-intuitive is the way to go in these challenging economic times.
The film, by Lynn Shelton, stars Mark Duplass and Joshua Leonard as a couple of buds who decide to get buddier than usual for the purposes of making a gay porn film. Which sounds, on the surface, a whole lot like Zack and Miri. (Except for that gay part.)

Russ Vandeveerdonk, says:
Video-on-demand, GREAT! A good idea, before a film hits the theatre. YOU CANNOT question Mark Cuban on this decision. Many questioned BROADCAST.COM, a billion bucks later, Cuban had the vision. I support this new-fangled decision.
